Indian Women's Cricketing team player Jemimah Rodrigues is on a high at the moment, as her century helped her team win the World Cup semi-final against Australia last night. Following the Indian cricket team's victory, many actors and other celebrities took to social media to appreciate their performance, with a special note on Jemimah's innings. At the same time, Jemimah used the opportunity to champion a special cause: mental health. Jemimah admitted that she was experiencing much anxiety as the cricket tournament began earlier this month and approached her mother to relieve her stress.
"I will be very vulnerable here. Someone who is watching this might be going through the same thing and that is my whole purpose of saying it," the cricketer told the media in a post-match press conference. The cricketer said that she used to call her mother and "cry and let it all out". She said that her parents and her teammates helped her deal with the situation.
Subsequently, Deepika Padukone shared the post and wrote, "Thank you Jemimah Rodrigues for your vulnerability and for sharing your story." For the uninitiated, Deepika once championed the same thing that Jemimah has just done. When she was at the height of her career, Deepika also went through a phase of depression and anxiety. Back then, the actor said that depression is an invisible health issue and that people who experience it may appear ostensibly normal and happy. Her experience caused Deepika to start a nonprofit called the Live Love Laugh Foundation.
